There is a saying in US English that says \u201cDo not bite the hand the feeds you.\u201d In this column, I am going to risk doing just that. My topic this month is my concerns with the growing commercialization of IEEE conferences and workshops.<\/p>\n

Do not get me wrong. I fully support the IEEE and believe that it does a lot of good for our profession and the world in general. IEEE journals have the highest ratings and citation factors. IEEE journals a re the most prestigious a nd researchers worldwide work hard to get their work published in an IEEE journal. IEEE conferences are also the most highly regarded for their high quality content and unequaled networking opportunities. Volunteering and serving on IEEE committees of all kinds is a great way to enhance one\u2019s career. So yes, I fully support the IEEE and have been a member long enough to be a Life Member.<\/p>\n
